Pre-object: Maruša Mazej
BIO:
Maruša Mazej was born in Slovenia in 1995 and is currently studying a Masters in ceramics at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. In 2018 she completed a BA in ceramics at the same Academy in Ljubljana; focusing, in her thesis, on researching glazes. She received a Recognition award from Academy in the same year.
ABOUT MY WORK:
An important element defining my work is balancing traditional and contemporary. Because ceramic’s field is so strongly connected with tradition I like to implement experiment, found objects and abstract concepts into my work. Exploring new possibilities in shape manipulation, while working on a potter’s wheel, leads me further on to rebuilt my relationship with the material with which I work and to discover its limits. This short video that I have prepared is capturing first steps on my journey from a ball of clay to the final ceramic object.
